OBITUARY: Services for Ernie Dale Whitehurst, 62, a biology teacher at Manual High S chool, will be held at 2 pm Rriday in the Cox and Martin Funeral Home, Pat oka, Ill. with burial in Vernon Cemetery Vernon, Ill. Friends may call at the Wilton Mortuary from 7 to 9 pm tomorrow. A pray er service will be conducted at 8 with the Rev. B. David Goodell of Fir st Methodist Church in charge. Mr. Whitehurst was dead on arrival at Methodist Hospital at 10:30 yesterd ay morning. A resident of 1412 N. Ellis since coming to Peoria 18 years a go, he was a member of the Peoria Educational Association, First United Me thodist Church and active in science fairs and biology organizations. Born at Vernon Aug. 16, 1908 the son of Jehu and Ora McMahon Whitehurs t, he married Elizabeth Livesay Aug. 16, 1934 at Salem. Surviving are his widow, one son Dr. D. Duayne Whitehurst Titusville, N.J ., one daughter Mrs Sheila Jo Pochington of Albaby Ga. one brother Willi am of Greenville, Ill., one sister Mrs Amos (Maud) Meador of Shabbonier, a nd three grandchildren. It is the county of NEW KENT. Have data on the history of the church. Do not know (Mar 1987) if the JOHN listed above is the father of SARAH wife of WILLIAM McHaney, but there seems to be good reason to believe so since his mothers name was also SARAH. This information agrees with that in the application of Nan Wickersham for membership DAR. !Following from WICKERSHAM application: JOHN WORD (1738-1821) was at King's Mountain where his brother Chas Word Jr (1740-1780) was killed, other brothers Thos Peter and perhaps Cuthbert were there also.
