Splawn states his family left Mo for OR in 1851, settling in Linn Co. In 1852 his uncle, Mabry Splawn & fam joined a group of about 50 covered wagons going to OR, but Mayberry said to have died of cholera 17 May, 1852 somewhere on the plains. [1mchaney.ged] OBITUARY EMMA LOU BERNIUS SALEM: Emma Lou Bernius, 55, of Alma died Friday at 9:16 am at St. Marys h ospital in Centralia. She was born in Salem on Sept. 17,1931 daught er of Frank H. and Lola (Frieda) McHaney. Her mother survives in Salem. S he married Don E. Bernius in Patoka on June 15, 1968 and he survives. Other survivors include a brother, Fra nk Edward Storment of Olney and a sister Jane Loerger of Centralia. Mrs. B ernius was a member of First Baptiust Church in Salem. Funeral services w ill be held Monday at 2 pm at Rankin Funeral Home in Salem with Rev. Robe rt P. Ward officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Salem.
