Married William F. Cleveland from Adkins Arkansas. No children. Lived
for many years in DeValls Bluff, Arkansas where Uncle Will operated a
stave mill. Uncle Will was a Republican which was not a popular party
in Arkansas back then. He hated FD Roosevelt and the NRA. Aunt Grace
and Uncle Will had a hard time of it all through the depression years
but saved carefully and in- vested wisely. They were able to retire
to a comfortable later lefe in Little Rock. They are buried in a
mausoleum in the cemetery on Broadway about 12th Street in Little

BIOGRAPHY: W. C. Newberry is in every way worthy of being classed among th e
prosperous
planters of Greene County, Ark. He was born in Weakley County, West Tenn ., in
1852, and was the sixth of eleven children born to Samuel and Nancy (Trant ham)
Newberry, the former a native of North Carolina, and the latter of Tenness ee. I
1854 they moved to Greene County, Ark., and settled near the farm on whi ch W. C
Newberry is now residing, where they entered land and resided until their
respective deaths, the father's demise occurring in February, 1874, and th e
mother's in 1883. They took quite an important part in the early histo ry of the
country, and the father assisted in organizing the county. W. C. Newberry
received his early education in the district schools of Greene County, a nd aide
at home in opening up his father's farm. He was married in Greene Count y, in
1872, to Miss Martha Jane McHaney, who was born in Arkansas, and is a daug hter
of John and Sally (Sims) McHaney, Tennesseeans. Mr. Newberry soon locat ed on hi
present farm of 120 acres, about fifty-five acres of which he has clear ed and
put under cultivation. He has added to his original purchase until he n ow has
200 acres of as good land as there is in the county, with 110 under the pl ow,
the principal products of which are corn and cotton. Mr. Newberry is indep endent
in politics, and is not an office-seeker. In 1874 he lost his wife, and fo ur
years later he was married to Mary H. Hartsoe, of Arkansas. His first uni on was
blessed by one son, Samuel; and his last by four children: Luther, Clifton ,
Charley and Tyler. His wife is a daughter of William and Sarah (McFarland)
Hartsoe, who came to Arkansas at an early day. The father is still livin g, but
the mother is deceased. Mr. Newberry has been active in aiding all laudabl e
enterprises, and is one of the self made men of the county.

OBITUARY:

Princeton - Clifford O. Norton, 67 of 417 N. Chestnut died yesterday in Pe rry
Memorial Hospital.

Born June 6, 1904 at Taylorville the son of Milton and Minnie Hedges Nort on he was a member of the first Baptist Church at Tiskilwa.

Surviving are his widow Lillie Livesay Norton one son Richard of Peoria th ree grandchildren five brothers, Roy of Wyanet, Russell and Eugene bo th of Princeton. Glen of Buda and Vernon of Jacksonville Fl.

Also surviving are five sisters Mrs Foy Miller Vandalia, Mrs Velma Anders on of Wyanet, Mrs Forrest (Nessie) Nordstrom and Mrs. Floyd (Fern)_ Dickin son both of Princeton. Mrs Mildred Haynes of Indianapolis In. and niec es and nephews. Services will be held at 2 pm Saturday in the First Bapti st Church Tiskilwa with burial in Elm Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Robe rt Scott will officiate.

Friends may call at Norberg Memorial Home from 7 to 9 tomorrow night. Parents: Silas Milton Norton and Minnie Myrtle Hedges.

Clifford Norton, 29, of Ramsey and Lillie Livesay, 31 of Vernon were unit ed in bonds of Holy matrimony February 2nd by Elder Kenneth Blankenship, t he ceremony performed at the minister's residence and witnessed by Glen No rton and Alice Beckett. Mr. Norton is a farmer , was born near Taylorvill e, son of Milton Norton. The bride was born at Patoka, the daughter of Cl inton Livesay.

NOTE:

A charivari and miscellaneous shower was given Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Nort on on Saturday eveninng at the home of the brides parents, Clinton Lives ay and wife. Quite a large crowd was in attendance and many nice gifts we re received by the young couple. Children were: Richard Alan Norton .

THE NEWS-JOURNAL -- RAMSEY, ILL. -- AUG 1, 1974

Russel R. Norton, 71, route 1, Tiskilwa, died Wednesday July 24 at Perry M emorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at 1:30 pm Saturday at the F irst Baptist Church in Tiskilwa. Rev. Frank Paddock officiating. Burial w as in Elm Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Norton was born April 9, 1903 in Taylorville a son of Milton and Minn ie Hedges Norton. He resided in the Dressor community for many years aft er the family moved here. He married Theresa Muck of Ramsey Feb. 15,19 28 in Vandalia. They lived here a few years but had farmed near Tiskil wa since 1939 brfore retiring two years ago.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter Mrs Carl (Gladys) Warnick, Decatur: o ne son, Charles of Ramsey, 10 grandchildren three great grandchildren, thr ee brothers Roy of Wyanet. Genne of Princeton and Vernon of Jacksonvil le Fl. Five sisters Mrs Foy Miller, Vandalia, Mrs Velma Anderson Wyane t, Nessie Nordstrom and Mrs Fern Dickinson both of Princeton, Mrs Mildr ed Haynes, Indianapoplis Ind.

His parents and brothers Clifford and Glen preceded him in death. Memoria ls may be made to the Cancer fund. Parents: Silas Milton Norton and Minnie Myrtle Hedges.

He was married to Rachel Theresa Muck on 15 Feb 1928 in VANDALIA, ILL..⁽³⁾⁽⁴⁾ Children were: Gladys Mae Norton, Charles Henry Norton.
