!Father was GEORGE A. MCNIEL, mother, MAUDE GIVEN. RALPH was Doctor
of Ed, Adelphi University, Garden City, NY. US Navy 1942-45. Family
moved to Piggott, AR when Mr George McNiel was elected sheriff of Clay
County. Ralph attended Rector High School and received his BA degree
from the U of Ark. Served on the faculty of Piggott HS until 1939 when
he accepted the appointment as postmaster a position he held until
1948. He was superintendent of Piggott HS from 1948 until 1950 when
he returned to the U of Ark to earn his Masters degree. He was then
employed by the Ark state Board of Education. He was given a leave of
absence to attend Columbia University in NY where he received his
Doctorate. In the mid fifties he left Ark to become a member of the
faculty of Adelphi University on Long Island. T here he became Dean..
