Enlist ed in King and Queen Co., Virginia, in winter of 1776, and served three years in Capt ains William Campbell's and Thomas Hamilton's Companies, Colonel Gibson's Virgi nia Regiment, at the expiration of which he enlisted in Colonel George Baylor' s Regiment of Dragoons, he was in the battles of Monmouth, Camden, Guilfor d, and Eutaw Springs, and was discharged June 12, 1783. He was allowed pensi on on his application executed August 18, 1819, while a resident of Wilson County, Tennessee, aged fifty-eight years, at which time he was living with two unmarried daughters, on his son William's la. She m MAYBERRY SPLAWN in Ray Co MO on 20 Oct 1826. This recorded in Ray Co court- house...Mayberry and his f built the first cabin in Daviess Co in 1830. There are deed records in th Daviess Co Cthse that show that they bought and sold other land.....prior to 1850 they mved to Holt Co MO. In a sworn statement that is part of her application for an OR Donation Land Claim, Bethena stated....she and her husb left Holt Co MO on 7 May 1852; he took sik with cholera on the 15th and died on the morning of the 17 May 1852, one day travel from the Platte R on the Iowa Mission Rd; they crossed the Mo R at Iowa Point; they had 7 ch. I found it interesting that B signed this statement on 20 Nov 1853 as Beththena Splawn with an X, her mark. In Sep 1857, Bethena filed another doc written in her handwritting. She spelled her name Bethena and signed B. Splawn. It appears that she learned to write after she arrived in OR. This 2d doc shows that Mayberry died on the waters of the Little Blue R (prob in Nebraska)...In OR Bethena had 2 marriages and 2 divorces...The long letter contains much more. Parents: Andrew J.
