OBITUARY: PORTSMOUTH -- Allen Edward Livesay, 71 of 113 Maurice Ave, a native of Ver non, Ill. and the widower of Mary Virginia Young Livesay, died Tuesd ay in a hospital. Mr Livesay had retired from the Navy as a gunners mate first class aft er 22 years having served during World War II and the Korean War. Levesay, Vernon CLINTON LIVESAY DIES IN ACCIDENT Clinton Oscar Livesay, 93, the oldest Vernon resident, was killed in a c ar accident in Vernon on June 28, 1967. He had lived in Vernon for the pa st 43 years where he had operated a garage and was an insurance agen t. He had farmed near Patoka for 50 years and had operated the Patoka Tele phone Exchange from 1911-1917. Mr. Livesay was born in Patoka Township August the 8th, 1873 the son of Al fred and Hannah (Logan) Livesay. He was married to Elvira McHaney Octob er 15, 1893 at the home of Rev. Monroe Smith in Patoka. She preceded h im in death on December 9, 1955. He was the father of 13 children, 8 so ns and 5 daughters. Three sons having preceded him in death; Cecil, Willi am and Sherman. Surviving are five sons, Gerald of Salem, Glenn of Harve y, Allen of Portsmouth Va, Harold of Calhoun and Clerence of Granite Cit y; five daughters Mrs. Phyllis Jernigan of St. Lewis, Mo. Mrs. Lillie Nort on of Princeton, Mrs Estelle Slavik of Melbourne Beach, Fl. Mrs Frances Th ompson of Calhoun and Mrs, Elizabeth Whitehurst of Peoria. Three of his gr andchildren, Mrs. Margaret Smith of Vandalia, William Livesay of Chicago a nd Mrs. Betty Jones of Patoka were taken into his home when quite small. He leaves 24 hrandchildren, 32 great0grandchildren and 1 great-great-grand child. Funeral services were held at 1 pm Sunday, July 2, 1967 at the Cox-Mart in Funeral Home in Patoka. Rev. [1mchaney.ged] NEWSPAPER ARTICAL VERNON MAN IN NAVY VISITS MEDITERRANEAN GREAT LAKES (Special)-- Now on an operational tour of Mediterranean por ts is Harold C. Livesay, Chief Fire Controlman. USN Gainard. Livesay, who first enlisted in the Navy in September, 1939, took his recru it training at Great Lakes, Ill. He served in the Atlantic and Pacific ab oard the light cruiser USS Savannah. During the war Livesay took pa rt in Atlantic convoy duty and the invasions of France and Sicily aboard t he destroyer USS Glennon. His ship was sunk at Normandy, France and he w as later assigned to the destroyer USS Metcalf, aboard which he participat ed in action in the Philippines at Okinawa and at Borneo. OBITUARY H. C. Livesay, 50 Dies in Olney Harold C Livesay, 50, Calhoun, a former Vernon resident, died Friday at Ri chland Memorial Hospital in Olney. He was a former chief petty offic er in the Navy who retired after 20 years of service. Mr Livesay was bo rn in Patoks, Aug. 9, 1917, the son of C. O. Livesay and Elvira (McHane y) Livesay. He lived in Patoka and Vernon prior to joining the service a nd had lived in Calhoun since 1959. Mr. Livesay's father was killed in an automobile accident last June. A bro ther, Sherman, also retired from the Naavy, died in May of this yea r. He is survived by brothers, Gerald of Salem, Glen of Harvey, lClaren ce of Granite City, and Allen of Portsmouth, klVa. and sister, Mrs. Phyull is Jernigan of St. Lewis. Mrs Lillie Norton of Princeton, Mrs, Estelle Sl avik of Melbourne Beach, Fla., Mrs Frances Thompson of Calhoun and Mrs. El izabeth Whitehurst of Peoria.
