finding a HICKS family in 1850 census of Jefferson County, ILL.
Jeffer- son County is just south of Marion County where WILLIAM
WILSHIRE McHaney lived with his father. This particular family of
HICKS was the only one listed in a county near Marion that had a
daughter named MARY age 12 in 1850 (age known from bible records).
The census lists her as MARY D instead of MARY E. It is assumed that
the D was a mistake of the census taker at the time. Also not sure of
place of marriage. Parents: Izaac Hicks and Sophia Hicks.
